Swad: Experience Authentic Indian Cuisine in Monona, WI

We went here on New Year's Day. Was a bit taken back by there being a buffet being served that day, but we gave it a shot. Boy was I happy we did. The buffet was amazing. So many freshly prepared authentic Indian dish's to choose from. Everything we tried was fantastic. The service was on point and very friendly. The owner stopped by our table and chatted with us for a while. The facility is a bit misleading from the road. The inside is clean and well up kept. Prices were more than fair for the portion sizes and high quality of the food. Can't wait to go back again. If you enjoy Indian food, you will enjoy this place.

After a long day of moving our daughter in to her apt., we decided to try out our first Indian restaurant in Madison as she starts to get her bearings. This place was amazing. First, the hospitality. We were tired, we were a little unkempt, we were about twenty minutes from being hangry. We walked in thirty minutes before the posted closing time. It was chill inside - a few families were eating and chatting, no loud music or TV screens flashing. (I am grateful for this!) The man who greeted us let us know they would be closing and wanted to know if that was a problem for us. He was very apologetic. We told him we knew our order and were ready to roll. He laughed and we were in business. We ordered rajmah, shahi paneer, plain curd, and chapathi. While waiting for our order, a server brought out pappadum and chutneys. It could have been the tired talking, but we have never had a better onion chutney. I want it on everything. The coriander (or mint?) chutney was also so fresh and flavorful. Our orders came out and everything was delicious. My daughter said that it tasted like our home cooking and that, despite the 30 minute drive, she had found her "place" for food when she is missing home. That's a pretty solid compliment to the chef and the staff who provided an excellent meal with kindness and efficiency. I look forward to many meals at Swad in the coming years!

One of the best Indian meals I've ever had. The staff were very friendly, the food was delicious and the ambiance was great. We ordered chicken Tikka Masala, garlic bread, white rice, eggplant dish (Baingan Bhartha), Gulab Jamum, Masala Tea.

Service was friendly & quick. Food was flavorful. I definitely enjoyed the fish curry, we got it spicy and it was perfect.

Swad is definitely one of my go-to spots in Madison. The food is always hot and fresh, and all of the employees are kind and attentive. I have yet to try anything here that I didn't like, but the lamb rogan josh, aloo gobi, and tandoori chicken are definitely some of my favorites. I'd also 100% recommend getting the mango lassi if you're craving a sweet drink!

+ Ordered takeout. Time to pick up was perfect and the food was well package to stay hot for the 20 minute drive home. Food was very good as we were to eat in the dining room. Each time I try something different of there many items. Have not had anything that was not very good. You get a chose of "Mild, Medium and Hot". Be careful of the Hot as it is HOT. I like some heat but depending on what I order, medium is the hottest I will ever go again. Like I previously said, I try different items and have not had any I did not like which makes it difficult not to go back to a previous one, so order an item you like from the many different chooses and enjoy.

When it comes to Indian food in Madison, Swad has always been our favorite. We were delighted when we heard that they had finally re-opened their lunch buffet. The location is pleasant, divided into two dining rooms (with the buffet in the back room). The service has always been good. But the food is where they really excel - there are many Indian restaurants in Madison, but I think the food at Swad is the best of all of them. I particularly love their malai kofta and their coconut soup. Their buffet is large, with a good selection of dishes, and their range of chutneys is pretty comprehensive too. If you're in the mood for Indian at lunchtime, you can't beat Swad!
